APNC Registered

I am a Registered Associate of the Association of Pet Nutrition Consultants (APNC), a professional association committed to promoting high standards within companion animal nutrition.

APNC registration provides reassurance that your nutrition consultant has undertaken appropriate education, professional mentorship and assessment, and works within a defined scope of practice and professional Code of Conduct.

As an APNC Registered Associate, I am committed to evidence-informed practice, ongoing professional development and working collaboratively with veterinary professionals where appropriate. This is particularly important when providing nutritional support for dogs with diagnosed health conditions or when formulating balanced fresh-food diets.

Ongoing Professional Development

Canine nutrition is an evolving field, and my learning doesn't stop with my formal qualifications. I undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure my knowledge remains current and that my recommendations reflect the latest research and developments in canine nutrition and health.

My CPD includes specialist courses, professional webinars, clinical nutrition training, research review and further study across areas including gastrointestinal health, chronic disease, nutrigenomics, herbal medicine, botanical self-selection and therapeutic nutrition.

I also regularly review scientific literature and recognised nutritional and clinical guidelines when researching individual cases. This is particularly important when supporting dogs with complex or diagnosed health conditions, where recommendations need to be appropriate to the individual dog rather than based on a generic protocol.

For me, professional development isn't about collecting certificates; it's about continually questioning, learning and refining my practice so that the advice I provide remains evidence-informed, responsible and within my professional scope.

How I Formulate Diets

When I formulate a diet, the aim is not simply to create a recipe that looks healthy on paper. It needs to be nutritionally appropriate, practical and tailored to the individual dog.

I use professional Animal Diet Formulator software to analyse recipes and assess their nutrient provision against recognised nutritional guidelines, including FEDIAF and NRC recommendations. Where a dog has a diagnosed health condition, formulation is also informed by relevant clinical nutrition guidance, current research and the dog's veterinary information.

Before formulating, I consider factors such as the dog's age, weight, body condition, activity level, life stage, health history, clinical results, current medications, food preferences and tolerances, as well as what is realistically achievable for the owner.

Where appropriate, recipes may be adjusted to address specific nutritional priorities associated with a health condition while continuing to provide an appropriate overall nutrient profile.

Although you can purchase generic recipes in my shop, if you book a consultation the formulation is calculated and reviewed specifically for your dog, with adjustments made where necessary as their needs change.

Fresh feeding should be individual, but it should never be guesswork.
